REDDITCH'S Youth Afloat charity is preparing to set sail with a number of new ventures which will help launch people in a fun direction.
The charity is setting up a new club where people can steer radio-controlled boats with the help of Adrian Taylor.
The club, part of the Johnnie Johnson Adventure Trust, will be held fortnightly at the Youth Afloat headquarters at Arrow Valley Lake, starting this Sunday from 10am-1pm. Places are limited.
All equipment is provided but people taking part can bring their own boats.
The charity is also running an activity week for eight to 15-year-olds during the half term holiday from October 24-28.
There will be an exciting programme of land and water-based activities, including sailing, kayaking, archery and mountain biking. A radio-controlled boat session will also be run for youngsters on October 26 from 10am.
A donation of at least £60 is required for the week-long event and application forms can be obtained by contacting the centre.
Looking ahead to next year, Youth Afloat will be organising a major fundraising event for when dragon boating comes to Redditch.
Each boat, decorated in traditional Chinese style, will have a crew of 10 people paddling to the beat of a drum.
The boats will compete throughout the day in various races with the winners being presented with medals and a trophy.
Youth Afloat is now appealing for businesses in and around Redditch to help with sponsorship - in part or full.
Companies will also be encouraged to enter their own teams in the races.
To enrol or help with sponsorship, call Youth Afloat on 464025.
