A TEENAGER who attacked another man in a Redditch street and broke his jaw in two places has been sent to detention for four years at Worcester Crown Court.
Judge Andrew Geddes said that 17-year-old Matthew Neade presented a "considerable danger" to the public because of his irrational behaviour.
The judge quoted a report from a psychiatrist who said he was worried that one of Neade's acts could have a fatal outcome, either to himself or a member of the public.
Neade, of Deans Close, Redditch, was convicted after a trial in June of causing grievous bodily harm to Ian Stewart, damaging the door of his house and intimidating him on the telephone.
The damage happened on August 26 last year when Neade called at Mr Stewart's home seeking a fight, said Mr Tariq Shakoor, prosecuting.
Mr Stewart refused and a brick was thrown through the window of his front door.
Three weeks later, the pair met by chance and Neade punched Mr Stewart eight or nine times in the face, breaking his jaw. He also threatened to bite off Mr Stewart's ear. Two plates were later inserted in the broken jaw in hospital.
Mr Shakoor said Neade also made calls on September 22 threatening to kill Mr Stewart.
Mr Adam Western, defending, said Neade had not armed himself with a weapon before carrying out the attack.
He had lost his cockiness during the time spent in custody, when he had been bullied. Mr Western disputed the assertion that Neade was liable to kill someone.
