THE characters of Royston Vasey see the end of the world coming for their inbred little village and cross over to the real world to convince the League of Gentlemen to continue writing scripts for them.

Intertwined with these two sets of characters is a third set who come straight from the pages of a bizarre drama set in the 17th century which is being written by League member Steve Pemberton.

The Royston Vasey gang and the 17th century rabble fight it out against each other, both groups determined not to die at the hands of the League of Gentlemen writers. The lack of film time given to some of the weirdest but yet most popular characters from the series - namely Papa Lazarou, and the superb Edward and Tubbs - may leave many disappointed. After all, this is a local film, for local people.

The film tries to demonstrate that the pen is truly mightier than the sword. But for those who like a bit of the old sword/axe action, there's plenty of grotesque violence to be viewed, portrayed in the comic way that only the League of Gentlemen can get away with successfully.
