COMMUNITY groups in Bromsgrove, led by the recently reformed Bromsgrove Society, decided to bring back the town's carnival. They favoured it being part of the Court Leet's Midsummer Fair activities, but the district council favoured it becoming a major part of the failing Sport for all Day in Sanders Park. The council said the town could not sustain two such events and it was not prepared to abandon its big day.
BROMSGROVE General Hospital held a successful open day on Saturday when most of the wards and departments were open for visitors to inspect. There were also plenty of stalls selling a range of goods and a total of £400 was raised to boost the Patients' Comfort Fund.
BREWERS Davenports planned to boost beer sales and help the local housing situation by building a housing estate on a piece of wasteland it owned behind the Crown Pub in Stourbridge Road, Catshill. The plans included 23 four-bedroomed and 22 two-bedroomed houses.
COUNTY council planners had been entrusted with the mammoth task of drawing up plans for the £20m widening of the M5 from Catshill to Warndon.
