A BRIDGE in Worcester will today be officially named in honour of one of the city's leading businessmen.
The George Street bridge, near Shrub Hill Retail Park, will today be named the Peter Underwood Bridge after the industrialist and benefactor, who passed away in 2003.
Mr Underwood was the former chairman of the Underwood Group of Companies, based in Lowesmoor, as well as the head of Midlands Coal Merchants and South Midlands Builders' And Plumbers' Merchants.
The Mayor of Worcester, Aubrey Tarbuck, who will attend the naming ceremony, added that Mr Underwood was also a personal friend.
"He did a lot in Worcester as a coal and builders' merchant and his building was near the area," he said.
"The family has been in Worcester a long, long time and this will recognise that in perpetuity."
