MALVERN United Angling Association members travelled by coach on Sunday to fish the King Sedgmoor Drain in Somerset.
The drain is a man-made water used for irrigation on the Somerset levels with even depth and a very healthy head of small roach and skimmers and some bigger bream and tench too.
Conditions were dry but a blustery wind made presentation on the pole difficult. Despite this there were plenty of bites to be had.
Worcester matchman Paul Bick, taking a day out from team commitments, was top weight with 13-11-0, consisting of roach and skimmers taken on pole and maggot tactics. Paul's weight was boosted by a nice tench weighing around 3-0-0 from the margins.
Paul's travelling partner Fred Bedford took second spot with 11-11-0. Fred employed similar tactics to land plenty of nice roach and skimmers in his haul.
MUAA's Buzz Busby walked several hundred yards along the stretch to find himself a swim where he proceeded to catch very well and his net tipped the scales at 11-6-0 which was enough for third place.
Paul Cooper found himself a nice swim at the beginning of the stretch where a feeder channel met the drain and employed stick float tactics to land 6-11-0 of small fish for fourth spot.
There were some bigger fish in evidence as Richard Gilks proved, after losing a very good fish early on Richard stepped up to a heavier line and was rewarded with the biggest fish of the day a bream weighing 4-12-0.
After the match members called into the Watersmeet pub in Hartpury for a meal to round off a very successful outing, despite Ronnie Thomas's best efforts to clear the pub with his rendition of The Old Threshing Machine.
