RANGERS made the long journey to the area of Alton Towers and were given a real rough ride in the first half.

ASHBOURNE UNITED 3, MALVERN RANGERS 4

If nothing else, Rangers' opening two games in the West Midlands League division one have produced a glut of goals with no fewer than 14 being shared between the teams.

Last Saturday, at Sporting Khalsa, Rangers succumbed to a last minute goal, this Saturday it was they who scored a last minute winner, all the more incredible because after 57 minutes Rangers found themselves 3-0 in arrears.

Within three minutes of the start visiting captain Neil Bond was penalised and centre forward Ian Atterbury scored from the resultant penalty. After 25 minutes the lively Ollie Endacott produced an excellent cross from the left, which Rob Cullen met well but keeper Jason Ainsworth saved.

One minute later and the home side went down the other end and Kev Millward provided a good cross to the far post where Ian Atterbury was on hand to head home. Three minutes before the interval another good run and cross by Ollie Endacott saw Rob Perrins head against the crossbar.

Within five minutes of the resumption Rangers had a great chance to reduce the arrears when keeper Jason Ainsworth miss-kicked but when the ball fell to Sam Black he shot wide of the far post.

Seven minutes later at the other end Mark White missed his clearance and Ian Atterbury capitalised with a free run in on goal to score. After 20 minutes of the half Rangers were given a life-line when Rob Perrins fed Rob Cullen and he reduced the arrears with a good finish.

Four minutes later Neil Bond's free kick was met by Ollie Endacott to net and after 36 minutes and it was all square. A long throw on the right by Rob Cullen caused confusion in the penalty area and Rob Perrins scrambled the ball home.

This week it was Rangers who produced the last minute winner. Ollie Endacott made a great run into the box earning a corner. Rob Cullen's cross was only partially cleared to the edge of the box where Rangers gained a free kick. Neil Bond then curled the ball into the top corner for an excellent winning goal.

Man of the match was Rob Cullen.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Rangers, sponsored by the Cross Keys Inn, entertain Stafford Town in their first home West Midlands League division one fixture. The kick-off is scheduled for 1pm because of the Wales v England international. Players to meet at the ground 11.45am.
