MALVERN Angels opened their season with a development fixture against Midlands Two team Hereford Grey-hounds.
Malvern opened the scoring with a fine try. Following a line-out for Malvern, a flurry of fast hands down the back line led to the try, scored by winger Laura Bradford.
This was quickly evened up by Hereford and the first half saw some excellent power play from both sides and a fairly even half-time score.
The second-half saw changes for Malvern in both the pack and the back row with players experiencing their first taste of competitive rugby. Coach Mark Edwards stuck to his game plan for the day and managed to see all his squad spend time on the pitch.
The final score was a respectable 17-29 to Hereford, with further tries from Laura Bradford, Louise Saum and a conversion for Debbie Danby.
The Angels are due to play another development fixture against Camp Hill on Sunday (September 11), at Spring Lane, 3pm kick-off before their league debut against Newark on September 25, again at Spring Lane.
