THE Malvern Angels will be joining a new level of competition in the RFUW national league at the start of the rugby season in September.
The town's first all-women's rugby team are determined to get a good start to their first season in West Midlands division four, along with several other new womens' teams who have also been affiliated.
Mark Edwards, the Angels' head coach has commenced pre-season training on Tuesday's and Thursday's and these will continue throughout the summer from 7pm at Malvern RFC's Spring Lane HQ.
Edwards and the 20-strong squad are very determined to fulfil their fixture programme, which includes 12 league, six friendly and four cup games.
The first outing for the Malvern Angels will be on Sunday, September 4, when they take on Lichfield 2nd XV at Spring Lane, followed by the first league fixture against Newark on Sunday, September 18.
Other league fixtures are: Oct 9, Eccleshall (a); Oct 16, Buxton (h); Oct 30, Moseley (h); Nov 6, Chesterfield (a); Nov 20, Ripley Rhinos (h); Nov 27, Newark (a); Jan 22, Eccleshall (h); Feb 12, Buxton (a); Feb 19, Moseley (a); March 5, Chesterfield (h); March 12, Ripley Rhinos (a).
Any women over 16-years-old who would like to try their hand at rugby union are welcome to call in at Spring Lane throughout the summer.
