A YOUTH riding a mini- motorbike suffered serious injuries in an accident in Malvern.

The bike was in collision with a Rover car at Guarlford Road, near its junction with Mill Lane, at 10.30am on Sunday (October 2)

Ted Higham, of Guarlford Road, heard the accident from his back garden. "When I heard the crunch I rushed over and covered him with a blanket. He was flat on his face," he said.

A passing jogger told him she had seen the youth fly through the air and land on the common.

"I was holding him down. He wanted to get up but he had a nasty hole in his back," said Mr Higham. "He had no protective gear on, no helmet. I think those things are blooming dangerous, he was in a right old state."

The youth, who has not been named, was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, with a suspected fractured pelvis.

Police have warned that mini-moto riders who use roads, footpaths and other public places risk breaking the law.

Mike Digger, police traffic management adviser, said these bikes are classified as motor vehicles and anyone riding them is committing offences unless on their own property.

"In certain circumstances, police can seize the machines and have them crushed. We therefore urge all riders and parents that the riding of mini-motos is restricted to private land where permission has been granted.

"In addition to motoring offences, there may well be occasions when mini motos and powered scooters are used in an anti-social way.

"Again, there are powers of confiscation and destruction and there could well be some very unhappy young faces if our warnings and guidance are not heeded."
