A TRIO of county riders are set to take on the challenge of one the event world's last major home-based internationals this season.

Leslie Law, Britney Cart and Lucinda Eaton will be in action at the Weston Park International three-day event in Shropshire between today and Sunday, which runs two CCI international sections as well as the British Under 21 Championships and Junior Regional Novice series.

Weston Park is one of the busiest three-day events in the world, with nearly 400 horses and riders competing from more than seven countries.

Upton-on-Severn-based Olympic gold medallist Law heads the local challenge, with two rides in the top CCI** section. He rides the young horses Kif D'Estruval and Jackson D' Allez.

The seven-year-old ex-racehorse Kif D'Estruval is owned by John Hales, whose other horses include Nick Skelton's Olympic showjumping partner Arko.

The horse has scored four novice wins this season and finished 11th in his first ever three-day event, the Hartpury CCI* in Gloucestershire.

Jackson D'Allez is in his first eventing season for owner Keith Scott but looked impressive at the Windsor CCI two star three-day event earlier this season where he finished 20th.

Law has a good track record at Weston Park, finishing second in the CCI** in 2002 on Another Garrison and ninth last year on Artic Fox Too.

Fellow Upton-on-Severn rider Cart is also among the CCI** entries on Trinity Presence. The American has just come to Britain and has had only two previous one-day runs in this country.

Evesham-based Eaton has been selected to ride for the Central team in the Junior Regional Novice Championship final. Her partner is Pollyanna XX, a new ride this season, who came to the selectors' attention when he finished fourth in the junior regional one-day event at Chepstow earlier this season.

Broadway's Erica Watson had the worst possible outcome at the Kreuth three-day event in Germany, returning with just one of her two horses.

Watson lost long-time partner Serving Time after he broke a foreleg at a cross country fence and had to be put down.
