FIVE months after Bromsgrove Urban District council had sanctioned the installation of warning bells in the homes of town firemen, the work had still not been carried out. The telephone company was experiencing wayleave problems from people who objected to cables being dragged over their premises and having insulators fixed to chimneys.

SPLENDID progress was being made at Bromsgrove's Cottage Hospital, the annual meeting heard. Greater demands had been made on its services which meant higher costs but donations too had risen.

ISAAC Aldridge, aged 55, and Charles Lewis, 35, appeard at Bromsgrove Police Court charged with riding cycles on the footpath at Spring Pools, Chadwich. Giving evidence, PC Shilvock admitted the road had been muddy, but not so bad as to prevent cycling. The accused maintained the highway was too dangerous to use and the path at the time had been devoid of pedestrians. The chairman of the bench fined them 1/- (5p) plus 2/6 (12. 5p) each in order to deter others from doing the same.

SOME 45 employees of the railway in Droitwich enjoyed their annual dinner held at the Spa's Great Western Hotel. Replying to one of many toasts the stationmaster, Mr Knee, in his speech, said he always instilled in his staff the need to oblige the public.
