THE 'treats' season was well under way - this week it was the turn of senior Sunday school scholars from St John's Church, Bromsgove. After a brief service they marched behind a band to Mr Newbold's field at Stoke Prior where they enjoyed the usual games. However, thanks to Messrs Brazier, Drury and Goodman, who took along their motor cars, many youngsters enjoyed an unforgettable experience - their first ride in a motor-powered vehicle.
MR and Mrs Smith of Elm Court entertained inmates of the Wychbold alms houses to tea and entertainment. On leaving each man was presented with a gift of a half-pound of tobacco and a cigar, while the women received a similar weight of tea.
AT an investiture at Buckingham Palace, Lord Windsor from Hewell Grange, near Bromsgrove, was awarded a CBE and Mr T Chavase, from Barnt Green, was knighted.
GUESTS at a fundraising garden party, held in the extensive gardens at Davenal House in Birmingham Road, Bromsgrove, took part in a novel new game - hunt the otter. Expert swimmer Mr Horton, from Town Mills, Droitwich Spa, did his utmost to avoid capture by the guests - the hounds - as he stealthily swam around the mill pool adjoining the gardens.
