Bretforton 1,
Wootton Bassett 2
SATURDAY'S competitively fought match saw Bretforton make a promising start with Lisa Workman, Sophie Cor-bett and Julie Hall all working well in midfield.
A good opportunity for Deb Slatter was created by player of the match Workman but a timely interception denied a strike on goal.
The hosts were let off the hook midway through the first half when a shot came back off a post and left goalkeeper Vicky Webb stranded. How-ever, a striker managed to steer the ball wide of the open goal!
It was goalless at half-time but, within five minutes of the restart, Bretforton were awarded a short corner. Hall struck the ball out to Corbett whose shot deflected off a defender's stick and looped high over the goalkeeper into the goal.
Andrea Cole's shot from inside the D was blocked by the goalkeeper, while Corbett was also thwarted on two more occasions.
The action moved to the other end where Wootton equalised and then took the lead when reacting fastest to a loose ball in the D.
Bretforton earned several short corners but they were unable to get a clear shot in and Corbett's late strike after intercepted a pass just inside the back line was narrowly off target.
The match ball was sponsored by Marcus Jordan Cons-truction Ltd.
New players are always welcome at the club's senior and junior training sessions at Evesham High School on Wednesday evenings.
"Jock" Leigh Robinson, a former Scotland international and Level 3 coach is looking after the juniors between 7 and 8pm, while Level 4 coach Jane Powell oversees senior sessions between 7 and 8.30pm.
