LEE Knight is poised to make a shock return to Common Road, writes Mervyn Collins.
The no nonsense central defender left Evesham United in August but manager Dave Busst has Knight, who has been playing for Stratford Town, pencilled in for a place against Gloucester City next Tuesday night.
"The real reason that Lee left the club have been addressed and the two people involved are happy with that outcome," the United manager explained.
"Busst missed out on bringing Steve Falmer to the club from Halesowen Town after Rugby Town offered the defender more money and it is the Warwickshire club where Karl Lewis's immediate future lies.
"Karl wanted regular first team football and I couldn't guarantee that here in the wake of Dave Adey's good form," Busst explained. "My brother left Alvechurch so that situation was lost and I spoke to Karl and his dad and he's ended up getting his wish at Rugby and I wish him well."
One of Lewis's earliest matches between the sticks at Common Road saw him replace his manager against promotion chasing Gloucester 18 months ago when Evesham produced a surprise 4-2 win to dent City's Division One West championship chances.
However, they did earn a place in the reformed Premier Division but are currently beneath the Robins in the top flight table following a 5-3 defeat at Bedford last Saturday.
Results this weekend when Evesham have another Saturday off could see Busst's men slip into the bottom four and make Tuesday night's game between the two strugglers at Common Road a crucial one even at this early stage of the season.
"We've got to get some consistency into our game," Busst admitted. Some of the players are complacent and you can't afford that at this level. Our displays have got to be on a par with the one against Halesowen and not like what we produced last Saturday."
In addition to Knight, there could be other new faces in the United side if Busst can bring them in on the budget.
"One player will be leaving and others will to if I am to bring in any more," the Evesham boss revealed.
