STOURPORT Hockey Club got the new season in National League North Division off to the dream start with a 6-2 victory over Harrogate, which put them at the top of the table.
But captain Phil Lashford has warned against getting carried away.
"We played well and it was quite comfortable but Harrogate were very depleted through injuries," said Lashford.
"It's a good start for us but next weekend's match against Nottingham will be a better indicator because they were relegated with us."
Peter Gibbons opened the scoring for Stourport after 11 minutes and Chris Griffiths capped an encouraging debut by adding a second goal before the interval.
Five minutes after the re-start Marc Edwards scored, then came the first of Imran Yousaf's two penalty corner scores.
Rohan Thomas reduced the deficit with a penalty corner in the 51st minute, and John Wood added a second for Harrogate on 64 minutes.
However, Irfan Yousaf replied almost immediately, and Imran Yousaf added his second soon afterwards.
They travel to Nottingham on Sunday.
Stourport Men's seconds were also victorious, winning 3-2 against Nottingham University.
David Knott did the damage with two goals before temporarily leaving the field after a yellow card.
Nottingham got back on level terms, but a penalty stroke from Dan Packwood finally killed them off.
They visit Loughborough Students at noon on Saturday.
Stourport thirds suffered a 5-2 defeat at Nottingham University - with Steve Ellis having to go to hospital for four stitches in an eye injury.
His departure left Stourport with 10-men and despite two goals from Max Totney they could not salvage anything from the game.
They host Loughborough Students in Midlands Premiers Third XI at 11.30am on Saturday.
Stourport fourths drew 2-2.
The fifths also shared the spoils, producing a spirited display to return from Cannock with a 0-0 draw despite only having 10 men.
They host Bridgnorth fourths on Saturday.
There was a convincing 8-0 win for the sixths at newly-promoted Bridgnorth fifths in West Midlands One.
Neil Hopkins and James Morgan bagged braces while also on target were Rob Claris, Dave Potter, Giles Colwill and Oliver Butler.
They host relegated Olton fourths at 2.30pm on Saturday.
Stourport sevenths opened with a 5-0 win in Central League South West Two with Matt Hill scoring twice and Charlie Smith, Mark Nicol and Kyle Claar also on target. They visit Worcester sixths on Saturday.
Kidderminster
KIDDERMINSTER walked away with a hard-earned point from their opening encounter of the West Midlands Premier League at newly-promoted Walsall, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Despite fielding a new defensive formation, they dominated the first half and saw a Matt Edwards effort ruled out after the referee spotted an infringement.
But after starting the second half on top, they were frustrated by great goalkeeping and found themselves a goal down against the run off play.
With renewed vigour they went in search of an equaliser which duly arried when Paul Grummitt deflected the ball past the keeper.
They visit Warwick on Saturday, trying to beat their hosts for the first time in two seasons.
Kidderminster Men's seconds were on the receiving end of 5-2 defeat at Walsall.
Thir goals came from Paul Adams and Chris Bagley. The seconds host Warwick University on Saturday.
But there were better fortunes for Kidderminster Men's thirds who defeated West Bromwich 1-0 thanks to a goal from Keith Burgess.
Other pluses were the encouraging returns of Andy Moore, in goal, Paul Rhodes and Ian Underdown after lengthy absences. The thirds travel to Whitchurch on Saturday.
Kidderminster fourths were beaten 4-1 at home to Droitwich with with Keith Pratt scoring their consolation goal.
They visit Bromsgrove on Saturday.
Chaddesley Corbett
CHADDESLEY Corbett got off to a fantastic start in West Midlands Division Two with a 10-1 battering of Malvern.
Matt Boden led the way with four goals while there was a hat-trick from Owen Smith, two from Neil Hemmings and one from Tom Boden. They will be hoping for more of the same when they visit Pershire at 4.30pm on Saturday.
