STOURPORT are riding high at the top of North Midlands South Two after a 26-20 victory over Dudley Wasps.
They produced the best exhibition of running rugby seen at Washes Meadow in many years to rack up a 26-3 first half lead.
After trailing to penalty they hit back with tries from Jaco Lester, Anton Cronje, Gary Williams and Victor Little, while Rob Humphries kicked three conversions.
The second half was more even and a lack of concentration from Stourport allowed Dudley to grab three tries to make the final score too close for comfort at 26-20.
Stourport seconds suffered a narrow 8-7 defeat at Upton on Severn, losing to a penalty in the third minute of injury time.
A Martin Saunders try, converted by skipper Stu Wilson put Stourport 7-5 up as the seconds ticked away - but the hosts snatched victory with thelast kick of the match.
Tries from Chris Holey, Wayne Fletcher and club chairman Andrew Foster were not enough to prevent Stourport thirds going down 40-15 at home to Bridgnorth fourths.
