RESIDENTS are being warned to be vigilant after a man called at a house in Church Hill claiming to be raising money for charity.
He called at one woman's house twice on Monday and Tuesday, September 19 and 20, claiming he was hoping to raise £10,000 for a charity for blind people.
He asked the woman for a donation and then asked to see a bank statement so money could be transferred directly.
She refused and reported the incident to the police.
Pc Gareth Lougher, from Redditch north east sector, saaid: "This woman did exactly the right thing by refusing to give out her bank details and alerting police.
"She also called round to see her neighbours to check they had not been tricked by this man.
"We want to remind people to be wary of anyone calling at the door without a prior appointment.
"Take the time to check their identification. Genuine callers will not mind this at all and it will act as a deterrant to anyone else.
"And never give out your personal and bank details, whether it's at the door, over the phone or by fax or e-mail."
As part of West Mercia's Knock Knock campaign, people are being urged to report any suspicious activity on 08457 444 888.
