OLD Elizabethans brought an exciting season to a close with the club's annual presentation night.

In a tense finish, the First XI avoided the drop from Birmingham League Division Two, while the Seconds narrowly missed out on promotion from Division Three.

The Worcestershire County League First XI were promoted from in second place to Division Five and the Seconds also finished runners-up in Division Eight.

Chris Marsh, Worcestershire County League administrator, presented the batsman award to 16-year-old James Bull, who averaged more than 50.

James Brinkley was a close second but did have something to cheer as he claimed the bowler award, pipping Chris Dale.

The prestigious clubman of the year belonged to first team scorer Dave Tyrrell.

Affectionately known as 'Statto', Tyrrell has also been a valued member of the committee and is currently chairman of the club's disciplinary panel.

Chris Shewring was a popular choice as top fielder.

Jamie Alford, aged 16, was named young player of the year.

Alford, in his first season in senior cricket, forced his way into the Birmingham League First XI early in the year.

He also won the man-of-the-match awards in OEs' Midlands Conference Trophy win.

First XI player of the year was Matthew Sprague, while Bull scooped the Second XI gong.

Chris Hopwood claimed his third trophy in three years as he walked off with the Third XI award.

Fourteen-year-old Warren Davies was awarded the Fourth XI trophy by Martyn Emson.

Sprague presented Australian Allan Brudar with the Sunday XI prize.

The ladies' section enjoyed their best ever year in 2005.

Flora Martyr won the young player of the year, while Karen Clarke was voted bowler of the year.

Pauline Gormley won the batsman trophy.
