Little Miss Naughty and the Good Fairy written and illustrated by Adam Hargreaves, original concept by Roger Hargreaves (Egmont, £2.50)
MR Men and the Little Misses have been with us for more than 30 years.
Their design is elegantly simple - bright shapes with little hands and feet, adorned with a nothing more than a hat or a bow in the hair.
There is a Mr Man or Little Miss for every facet of human nature and everyone has their own favourite. In 1971, there were just seven Mr Men, with no Little Misses appearing for the next 10 years. There are now more than 80.
Following Roger Hargreaves' death in 1988, Adam Hargreaves took over what had become the family business. More than 100 million Mr Men books have been sold to date, making Roger Hargreaves the second-most successful author in the UK (after JK Rowling, of course).
It is easy to see why these books are so popular.
Little Miss Naughty and the Good Fairy slots easily into the burgeoning pantheon of titles - it has a clear plot, the characters are straightforward and above all, it's funny.
Whether you are reading this to your young children, or they are old enough to read by themselves, it is sure to be well received. Jim Collins
