Kings Norton 33

Bredon Star 20

NORTH Mids (South) One

chairman of rugby Ian Jackson had good cause to be satisfied with this important first home league victory against newcomers Bredon Star who have surprised everyone having won both of their opening games in the league this term.

The newly-promoted Tewkesbury side, on their first visit to Ash Lane, were reeling straight from the kick-off as Norton romped into a third minute lead thanks to a fine try from skipper Matt Eagles.

Kings kept up the pressure and Jamie Clayton added a tenth minute penalty following dissent by Bredon in front of the posts before the visitors replied with a penalty five minutes later.

The home forwards were imposing their superiority and creating constant pressure in this fast moving game.

With 22 mins on the clock John Hefford crossed for his first try following a good forward drive. Clayton converted and then added a penalty after being illegally tackled in front of the posts.

As Bredon attempted to get their backs moving they were dismayed to find Kings captain Eagles at his sharpest as he cleverly intercepted and raced half the field to score under the posts for a converted try.

Kings were in rampant mood and Hefford crashed over again to give the home side a 30-3 interval lead.

The Hopwood side maintained the upper hand at the start of the second half but were kept at bay.

They then seemed to lose momentum and Bredon hit back with a fine converted try.

Clayton then kicked another penalty before Eagles had to leave the field with a shoulder injury.

Bredon bounced back and were rewarded with two unconverted tries in the final 15 minutes.

Kings Norton play host to Tenbury Wells in the league on Saturday.
