A MAPPLEBOROUGH Green woman has made history in her small community.
Judy Stote, who lives next to the village church, has become the first licensed Reader since it was founded in 1888.
The 55-year-old grandmother was licensed in Coventry Cathedral by the Bishop last month. She had been worshipping at the Church of Ascension since 1991 and was confirmed as a Christian in 1993.
Judy said: "I am really happy to be a Reader after two years studying theology."
She explained that she was able to give sermons, take services and do most other things a vicar could, except conduct marriage services or baptisms.
She added: "I have been a committed Christian since I was 40. I moved away once to Suckley, then returned because I just couldn't settle - I think it was the church that called me back."
Church of Ascension vicar, the Rev Richard Deimel, said: "Judy being made a Reader is a great sign of the life and growth in Mappleborough Green church where 40 or 50 people of all ages worship each Sunday."
