FORMER rugby league star Steve Booth took the field for Worcester in their 10-13 'A' League defeat against Northampton last night.

Booth is currently on trial at Sixways and played on the wing for the first 40 minutes against Saints.

The 29-year-old left Leicester Tigers last December after playing 71 matches for the Welford Road side, in which he scored 26 tries and kicked 64 points.

Booth previously played for Huddersfield Giants in the Super League before crossing codes five years ago.

Argentine Fernando Higgs, also on trial with Worcester, appeared on the other wing.

Inclusion

But the pair's inclusion could not prevent Worcester suffering their second defeat to Northampton in the space of three days.

Saints went 8-0 up thanks to a penalty from Luke Myring and a try from Ben Jones. Worcester cut the deficit to five at half-time with a penalty from full-back Jamie Lennard.

American prop Mike MacDonald was driven over for a try five minutes after the interval and Lennard converted to put the hosts into the lead.

Worcester replacement prop Callum Black crossed in the 70th minute but his effort was ruled out. With two minutes remaining, Saints went down the blind-side and Alex Rae clinched the winning score.
