HEREFORD United's inability to see off opponents at Edgar Street is beginning to cost them dear after another Nationwide Conference draw on Saturday.

The Bulls have now won just two of their six home matches and once again failed to sparkle.

They got off to a great start with a goal from loan striker Matt Bailey after just 15 minutes but conceded almost immediately when Ryan Green put through his own goal.

Good penalty appeals at both ends were waved away as the game progressed but Canvey had some good oportunities to take the lead.

However, Hereford should have grabbed the points in the final three minutes when Alex Jeannin headed against the woodwork.

They were able to announce an unchanged team after Tuesday's 1-0 win at Aldershot, but the visitors were forced into a couple of defensive alterations through injury.

And Hereford looked set to exploit this in the early stages when Bailey might have done better with a fine Jeannin cross which he headed wide from a good position.

But the 19-year-old did not have long to wait before he got on the scoresheet.

Danny Carey-Bertram neatly flicked the ball through and Bailey ran clear of the visiting defence before directing a delicate lob over the head of goalkeeper Richard McKinney.

But Canvey were back on level terms within two minutes from their first corner of the game.

With goalkeeper Wayne Brown on the floor at the near post, Dwain Clarke's flag-kick reached the far upright where it was volleyed into his own net by Ryan Green.

From his position on the touchline, boss Graham Turner felt his goalkeeper had been impeded and said: "We thought that Wayne had been baulked but in fairness there was not much of a protest on the pitch."

Just before the interval, Canvey seemed to be denied a penalty when Darren Blewitt was pulled up for a foul on John Kennedy but referee Amy Rayner awarded a free-kick.

Three minutes into the second period, Carey-Bertram had his legs taken away in the area but this time Rayer did not even whistle.

Even the loss of skipper Jeff Minton for a second yellow card failed to dent the resolve of the visitors who had good chances to win the game through Jason Hallett, twice, and Dominic Sterling.

But Jeannin should have wrapped things up three minutes from the end. Bailey's header across goal from a Rob Purdie corner found him just a couple of yards out but he headed against the bar.
