A FIRM near Worcester has mapped out its route to success by becoming a partner with Ordnance Survey.

Laser Surveys has been asked by OS to think up and design products based on the latter's mapping information.

The Leigh-based firm has gladly taken up the task and believes if the partnership works as well as it hopes, it will mean big things.

Laser Surveys managing director Mark Walker said: "We could be talking a deal worth millions here, relocation to bigger premises and job opportunities.

"But this is the first step for us really and we have to prove ourselves before we get there."

The company has spent the last three years talking to Ordnance Survey and the last 12 months developing products to put forward to them for approval.

Andy Terry, manager, is in charge of all the new projects.

He said: "This is a very exciting time for us and a step in a completely new direction from the surveys we spent the last 30 years doing. We are currently developing a website that will have all the OS details on it and will be easy to use and understand.

"In the past, it has not been clear what information is available to people and people were given terms and had no idea what they meant. All that will hopefully now change.

"And the best thing is that people will be able to create their own maps, putting the things they want on there, like churches and sports centres, without the need for special software."

The partnership between Laser Surveys and OS is due to be officially sealed during a meeting tomorrow.

Mr Walker added: "This is a great honour for a company as OS does not let anyone work with them and it has taken three years for them to accept they have a partner in us who can cut the mustard."
