SUPERBUG shocker at hospital... read all about it. Of course, we cannot predict with total accuracy how The Sun will present the story featured on our front page today, but it it's a fair guess this will be the gist of it.

Almost exactly a year after this newspaper reported on how undercover reporters from ITV took swabs from door handles and lift buttons, Britain's biggest-selling tabloid has followed suit.

The paper's journalists may have been following up our front page lead on Tuesday which chronicled the ordeal of Ken Sutton and his knee operation.

But we very much doubt whether they've been keeping tabs on the superbug saga as diligently as the Worcester News.

However, let us pause to think for a moment. A lot has happened since Sir Trevor McDonald's snoopers lurked in the Worcestershire Royal's corridors.

Awareness of the MRSA bug has increased and a rigid regime of hygiene introduced. Medical staff must constantly use an alcohol jelly in the constant war on infection.

This newspaper therefore understands health chief John Rostill's anger at The Sun's actions.

Nothing - apart from sales - will be gained by sensationalist reports that cloud what is a complex and difficult issue.

It seems that regardless of the measures taken, there will always be a nook or cranny where this dreadful germ can thrive and multiply.

Sadly, we doubt whether The Sun will take this into account.
