WELL done to our planning committee for, at long last, giving an overwhelming majority approval to Lidl's plans for the Link.
It's a pity we had to wait for five years and go through numerous biased and blinkered objections to reach the approval stage. The Link is on one of our main routes into our beautiful town but it has been scarred for too long by the derelict Eurohaus site. I am surprised those objectors, if they are so proud of their area, didn't form a local group to tidy it up.
But what poor losers these vocal people in the Link have been! Why not be thankful that Lidl will come, develop a dreadful eyesore into something presentable, provide some affordable housing and some additional parking for the two excellent specialist shops and the caf next door.
Everyone would agree the Link in isolation does not need another supermarket but that's the narrow picture - Lidl is for the district and if my experience of using their two stores in Worcester is anything to go by, we will find them offering an interesting range of goods of the Waitrose quality but at Kwik Save prices.
This year Britain was awarded the 2012 Olympics and we won the Ashes, because the best team prevailed fairly and squarely without cheating and back-handers.
Lidl have been granted their planning permission according to due democratic process which his the right way - don't be poor losers.
