THE former First Sea Lord was among more than 300 people who celebrated the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar at a fundraising ball.
The Trafalgar Ball was held at Homme House in Much Marcle on Saturday and there was a key role for Malvern Sea Cadets.
Cadets provided essential support for ball organisers and also attended the flag as the Band of the Royal Marines played.
The naval ensign was lowered by able cadet Jonathan Bird, leading cadet Kim Davies and leading cadet Susanna Williford before being presented to former First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Jock Slater.
Admiral Slater said: "These young people are the future of the Royal Navy and I am delighted to see that they are so disciplined and professional."
The marquee for the ball was decorated with signal flags, an eight-foot portrait of Admiral Lord Nelson, silhouettes of ships of the line and replica cannon.
Malvern auctioneer Philip Serrell conducted a sale of lots and the ball raised £10,000 for King George's Fund for Sailors.
Every guest received a Trafalgar oak, grown from the acorns of trees planted in the Forest of Dean on Nelson's direct orders to provide timber for the fleet.
A further 1,700 are for sale now at £25 each, which could raise more than £40,000 alone. The saplings, which come with a certificate of authenticity, can be ordered on 01531 670400.
