THE Crown Inn, Colwall, will be able to open for longer hours from November 24.

The Walwyn Road pub can sell drink until midnight, Monday-Thursday, to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays and 11pm on Sundays.

The decision was made by Herefordshire Council's regulatory sub-committee, which met on Tuesday. No objectors to the longer hours attended the hearing, although the council did get six letters expressing concern.

The police made no objections, although environmental health requested a number of conditions for public safety reasons.

Landlord Ken Mulholland said: "We were granted the hours we asked for and we look forward to welcoming guests during the extended hours."

Two other licensed premises in Colwall were granted new-style licences at earlier hearings. They are the village hall on Mill Lane and the Chase Inn on Chase Road. The village hall can sell alcohol until midnight every night except Sundays, which is 10pm. The Chase can sell alcohol until 11.30pm every night, except Fridays and Saturdays, which is 1am. Conditions include no music outside after 11pm and no amplified music at all outside.
