WORCESTERSHIRE Golf Club ladies vice-captain Veronica Shaw and immediate past chairman Jane Tromans met in the final of the ladies' singles knock-out competition at the Malvern Wells course.
Played over 36 holes, the final saw Veronica gain a strong position to lead by four holes after the first round. In the second round Jane managed to reduce the deficit but Veronica fended-off her challenge to take the Perrins Cup.
Losing semi-finalists were Trina Smith and Jane Ackroyd.
Veronica was also successful in the testing Russell bogey competition winning with a score of +3, one shot ahead of Pat Longley, +2, with Brenda Jones, Zena Lloyd and Maureen Riley close at +1.
In the final of the bronze division knock-out steady golfer Vanessa Chesterton met a challenging opponent in the improving Susie Bird. A good tussle ensued with Susie eventually winning. The losing semi-finalists were Jane Quick and Julia Radley.
Fran Jackson-Dooley defeated Joss Penrhyn in the final of the Ledbury Plate, Joss Penrhyn and Margaret Duncan overcame June Jones and Alex Dunster in the final of the Tankard Foursomes and Ursula Pearson and Liz Lewis defeated Brenda Jones and Pat Rose in the final of the Daily Mail Foursomes.
Ladies' invitation day proved a most enjoyable event with guests coming from far and wide to play a course in excellent condition, albeit that the greens were a little slower than those at some of their home clubs.
A shotgun start ensured a full house for the subsequent meal in the clubhouse. Principal winners were Pat Fletcher and her guest Jeanne Round with 42 Stableford points, Barbara Wilkinson and Di Garrett with 41 points and Ruth Scott and Sapey GC lady captain Carol Moore with 39 points.
Doreen Hunt and J Steed won the best front nine, Corinne Mills and Pat Darch the best back nine with Pat also winning nearest the pin on the 15th hole.
