AS you will know from reading the Worcester News this week, my role at BBC Hereford & Worcester is to change, and in the next few weeks I will stop presenting the Afternoon Show.

The station has asked me to take on a new role, working in the sports team, which is something I have done in the past, and if you read this column you will know of my local sporting interest by following the Warriors, The County, The City, The Harriers and so on.

I am looking forward to getting stuck into sport in a new role for the station, but hopefully will still be at Sixways for match days. If you don't fancy a challenge every day, you might as well stay in bed.

On to other things. Talking of sport, I went to both ends of the rugby scale last weekend. On Sunday it was the Warriors down at Wycombe against the Wasps.

It was a good day out and I thought our boys did well. A couple of mistakes cost them the game, and the support was tremendous.

But the day before I got on the bike and rode down to watch Upton-upon-Severn play Woodrush. This is grassroots rugby, where the lads pay to play, and have to put on events to keep their club going.

Upton won comfortably in the end, but it was an enjoyable afternoon out, and when was the last time I saw a hooker kicking five conversions? The great thing about sport at this level, is that anyone can take part.

The second team game on the next pitch had players of all shapes and all sizes.

But they were all out there playing the game, knocking seven bells out of each other, but having a pint together in the bar afterwards.

Went to the Theatre a few times this week. On Thursday it was Comedy night at Malvern, where the compere was very amusing, and two of the comics made me laugh. I didn't much like the other one, but he may not have liked me.

Then on Friday, I saw The Reduced Shakespeare Company at Pershore. It was very funny and it's a lovely little venue at Number 8.

Monday it was Saturday Night Fever in Birmingham, a very high energy, high action show. Again to be recommended, but leave your white suit at home.
