WORK has begun to
repair the clock of a historic Worcester church which
has not told the time since last Christmas.
Around £4,000 is being spent on fixing the motor, which drives the hands of the clock at St John's Church, off Bromyard Road, in St John's, after it burnt out.
The face is also being repainted and the numbers are being replaced.
Churchwarden Ron Cantrill said: "We were going to have the face done white with black numbers but for various reasons it has been decided to stick with the colour it is - blue background and gold numbers.
"I walked past there yesterday and it looks
very smart."
Mr Cantrill added that the motor has now been taken away for modification.
He said: "I would think the work will be finished in about a week's time."
Earlier this year, the church, which dates back to the 12th Century, underwent a major renovation costing around £100,000.
The six-month long work, which was completed during the summer, saw the pews at one side of the church removed and replaced with concrete paving to form a large area for social use. A new heating system and kitchen were installed and disabled access improved.
