A GARDEN to provide therapeutic benefits to patients at Worcestershire Royal Hospital is taking root.
It has been designed by a team of physiotherapists and occupational therapists who have ensured that it will include all aspects needed to help patients rehabilitate after illness.
The horticultural haven will include dropped kerbs, a wheelchair ramp, different textured surfaces, steps and screened seating areas to provide patients with privacy while resting.
It is being developed through generous funding by the Friends of Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
Julie Elliott, occupational therapy manager, said the specially designed garden would provide a very useful additional element for improving the rehabilitation service for patients.
"The first few steps are often difficult after a prolonged or debilitating illness and the garden layout with its special provisions will greatly help in the process," she added.
Heather Westcott, chairman of the Friends of Worcestershire Royal Hospital, said: "We are delighted to be involved in such a worthwhile project which has the potential to help many of the patients.
"Naturally, we wanted the garden to look pleasing, with plants, shrubs and a pergola, but the really important aspect for us is that it has been carefully designed as part of the recovery plan or pathway for patients."
