CONCERT SUCCESS: The concert, Classical Cabaret, given in the village hall last Thursday evening in aid of the appeal fund, was well attended. Talented violinist Beverley Davison, who studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and started her career as a classical musician, has now developed her own individual style of presentation and the result is a programme of classical works to which are added jazz, folk and hits from famous shows, all offered with a sprinkling of lively but gentle humour. She was assisted by her accompanist, Peter McCarthy.
HARVEST FESTIVAL: Harvest Festival was celebrated at St James' Church on Sunday morning in an unusual style. It had the usual attractive flower and produce displays, and the hymns included, all the traditional sentiments but it began by having a procession of people, young and old, carrying gifts of food to the altar. The Rev Richard Thorniley explained that this idea had arisen some time ago when the children decided that a thank-you to God for all that He provides should be an offering of some favourite food which could then be shared by all present. This duly happened and after the service, which saw many of the children leading the prayers and doing the readings, everybody enjoyed a wide variety of favourite-foodstuffs of all kinds. Thanks to the rector's warning in advance, curries and burgers and steak and chips were not on offer but many other things were, including ice cream cornets.
