WYRE Forest District Council is calling for further studies on the effectiveness of flood defences in Stourport.
The council will ask the Environment Agency to review part of its management strategy as it is concerned about Sandy Lane and Mart Lane.
Councillor James Dudley, the council's cabinet member for the environment and economic regeneration, said it would like the agency to consider whether Sandy Lane should have temporary flood defences as flooding would have an economic impact.
He added: "In Mart Lane we are asking them to look into whether more permanent flood defence work is needed, as this is a site we have earmarked for regeneration."
The council has praised improved flood warning system plans outlined in the agency's draft River Severn report that assesses risk over a 50-year time scale.
The improvements would mean earlier flood alerts would be available to residents and businesses in potential risk sites.
The issue is being discussed at tonight's district council cabinet meeting and any further recommendations will be made then.
