WYRE Forest boasts two new county champions after Tom Kenderdine and Jackie Phillips left their rivals trailing in the Worcestershire 10k Championship at Stourport.

The runners, both members of Kidderminster and Stourport Athletic Club, were first home in a field of 213 runners in Sunday's Brambles Trust race which incorporated the county event.

Kenderdine clocked a fantastic time of 32 minutes and 33 seconds, the second fastest the history of the event.

It was the first time the 32-year-old, who works as a chef, had triumphed in the race.

Phillips also set a cracking pace in the women's event, clocking 40-06.

The 37-year-old, who works in local government, only took up running two years ago, after carving out an impressive reputation as a rower for Bewdley Rowing Club.

Kenderdine and Phillips' trainer Bob Ashwood said the athletes did themselves and KSAC proud.

"It's great for two local runners to win the county titles on their own patch and both Tom and Jackie fully deserved it after all the hard work they put in," he added.
