MARK Riley was the Kidderminster Chess Club hero when they knocked holders Shifnal and Telford out of the Wolverhampton League Pittaway Cup.
In the last game to finish, Riley defeated former Shropshire champion Colin Roberts to secure a 4.5-3.5 victory, and a place in the second round.
Two Shifnal and Telford players failed to arrive, but Kidderminster take full credit for their performance as they out-graded by an average of 26 pints in the six games contested.
