An accident which might have had very serious results and which was caused very simply happened near Fladbury. A man was driving with a load of fruit to Evesham Market, and as the horse seemed a bit sluggish, he touched it with the whip to encourage it. The result was most disconcerting. The horse started forward with a jerk, breaking a portion of the harness, the shafts flew up into the air, and the occupant of the trap and the contents thereof were precipitated into the road. The man was considerably shaken. The frightened horse continued down Craycombe Hill with the cart dragging behind until running into the bank and smashing the trap. The horse was very little injured.

September 27, 1930

The Evesham ex-Service men were to have held a rifle meeting on Tyddesley Wood rifle range on Saturday, but wretched weather and a flooded range caused them to cancel the shoot. The Evesham Territorials braved the elements, and as arranged, on Sunday, fired off the annual meeting to decide the winners of various cups and trophies. Lieut. Percy Byrd, officer commanding "B" Company (Evesham) was in command, and he made the best score of the day, obtaining a possible in the snap-shooting, which is the most difficult of all practices fired, the target being a two-and-a-half inch disc exposed for four seconds at 300 yards range.

October 1, 1955

Evesham shopkeepers are forming a back room committee to hammer out a scheme that will, they hope, save them from excessive rates when the new valuation list takes effect next April. The committee, consisting of five members, will discuss rating problems with experts and will get advice from specialist surveyors on how appeals against bigger assessments should be arranged. Later, all shopkeepers in the town will be told the facts. These decisions were arrived at by the Chamber of Trade on Tuesday after considering the sort of increases in rates that may be made.

Contracts are being signed this week for Evesham Hospital's long-awaited day room extension. Building on the £32,000 project was originally scheduled to start in April with completion about June or July. But a requirement by the local health authority that the whole of the money should be available before building work could start, has meant a long and fairly costly delay. Although the money has been promised, the fund is still £10,000 short and the organisers, Mrs Brenda James and her husband Ken, are hoping to raise it within the next six months. "This is for Evesham hospital and is a community effort and we are hoping everyone will support it," said Mrs James.
