STOURPORT Swifts have wasted no time in appointing a new manager following Dave Titterton's resignation.

Roy Rencher will take charge of Swifts for the first time when they visit Swindon Supermarine on Saturday.

The former Sutton Coldfield youth team boss was the best candidate interviewed by chairman Chris Reynolds after Titterton quit last week.

Titterton felt he had taken Swifts as far as he could during his three years in charge. Player-coach Bryan Small was in charge of team affairs for Tuesday night's 3-3 draw with Rencher's former club Sutton.

Rencher watched from the stands and met the Swifts squad briefly after the match. He takes his first training session tonight.

Rencher follows in the footsteps of Phil Mullen, Rod Brown and Titterton.

Reynolds insists Rencher's record in youth football and his contacts swung it, saying: "We had a few from the managerial merry-go-round who were interested but we've always tried to give young managers a go.

"Roy's been at Sutton Coldfield Town as youth team manager for five years and he's done exceptionally well there, winning the floodlit league three years on the trot. He came over very well and impressed us.

"At Sutton he'd gone as far as he could. There was no chance of him taking over their senior team so we've given him his chance," he added.
