DEPARTING boss Dave Titterton has cited Stourport Swifts' lack of ambition as the reason for his resignation from Walshes Meadow.
Titterton quit the Southern Football League Western Division club last week after three years at the helm.
Swifts are currently languishing third from bottom and Titterton believes there is no realistic chance of them challenging for promotion with their current infrastructure.
The former Coventry and Wycombe full back, who turned 34 on Sunday, insists the club are in much better shape than when he succeeded Rod Brown in 2002.
"On the playing side the club is much better because back then it was a shambles. Unfortunately it hasn't moved forward off the pitch.
"The problem is that there is only one major benefactor and my concern has always been what happens if that benefactor moves on?
"We'd got to the stage where we were competing in games but I want more than that.
"I'm a winner and I want to be challenging for things but that was never going to happen there.
"I needed money for four more players but the investment just wasn't there."
Despite his criticism of Stourport, Titterton maintained that he had parted from the club on good terms.
"I think they were a bit shocked when I told them at the committee meeting last Thursday night but I know it is the right decision.
"I've made a lot of friends at Stourport and I'd like to think I'd still be welcome back there for a pint."
Titterton insisted that he does not need a break from the game and revealed that he could be back in football within the next week.
"I've had two or three offers in the past 48 hours which has been quite flattering," he said.
"Those have ranged from going back into full-time football on the youth side of things to being a number two at a decent level.
"I've also had a couple of chairman sounding me out for the future.
"My next decision is a big decision. No matter where I go it has to be at a club that can match my ambition both on and off the pitch.
l Stourport and Sutton Coldfield shared the spoils in an entertaining 3-3 draw at Walshes Meadow.
Swifts led twice but defensive frailties showed again as they were pegged back by a late equaliser.
Swifts took the lead on 11 minutes when Duncan Willetts sent a ball to the back post which was met by Nathan Jackson, on his home debut, who guided the ball beyond keeper Dale Belford.
Sutton piled on the pressure after the break and deservedly drew level on 55 minutes when full-back Darren Massingham drilled a free-kick into the far corner.
And it was the visitors who nosed ahead two minutes later when Damien Markman burst through and cut the ball back to Craig Owen to slot home.
Stourport levelled on 65 minutes when Sutton keeper Belford spilled a routine cross and Richard Burgess's effort was diverted over the line by Massingham.
And it was Swifts who then took the lead eight minutes from time. A long ball over the top set Jackson away and he cleverly beat his man before firing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.
But Stourport's joy was short lived as they were split open at the back again three minutes later with Hebbard chipping the keeper to earn Sutton a point.
