IN the Evesham Journal dated September 22, I was struck by two articles about Wychavon District Council.

The first article related the sad tale of Mr Coupland, a disabled senior citizen, who really did nothing dreadfully wrong by parking in an area close to the Mobility Centre in High Street, to collect a mobility scooter and put it into the boot of his car, which apparently had a blue disability badge on display. For this alleged mis-doing, he was awarded a parking fine by one of the parking wardens who are employed by Wychavon District Council. The Council spokesperson seemingly said, "We're not able to comment on individual cases."

The other article related to Wychavon District Council's ranking as third best district council in the country for its quality performance! If the adjudicators had taken into account Wychavons ability to grant planning consent to Kanes Food Products, in spite of the fact that the planning application did not conform to the laid down regulations, maybe Wychavon would have been judged the best!

Only a few weeks ago, Wychavon District Council, along with the rest of the country were celebrating 60 years since the cessation of hostilities. The threat of the Nazis and Gestapo had been eliminated, only to be replaced by parking wardens, and corrupt officers and councillors.

I shudder to think what the other two district councils, that were judged to be better than Wychavon, are really like.

If this is democracy, perhaps communism would not be such a bad thing.
