Bath Buccaneers 0, Bretforton 2

THE University hosts settled the quicker in Saturday's opening league clash and quick and decisive passing penetrated the Bret-forton D on several occasions.

However, goalkeeper Vicky Webb made a number of excellent saves with a diving full length effort that just managed to deflect one shot wide with her stick the pick.

With a mixture of youth and experience the back four of Michaela Amphlett, Jane Wheeler, Bobbie Handley and Liz Murray-White managed to hold the waves of attack from the Bath forwards and midfielders.

Player of the match Julie Hall had a storming match making a number of great runs down the left and linking up well with namesake Sarah as the forward line pressurised the Bath defence.

Despite their somewhat nervy start the visitors started to find their feet and midfielders Lisa Workman and Sophie Corbett combined well in support of the forwards.

A number of short corners were won and only some desperate defence kept the home side in the match.

The deadlock was finally broken five minutes from half-time when a Julie Hall short corner found Corbett whose shot was initially blocked by the keeper only for Hall to fire in the rebound.

With renewed vigour Bret took the game to Bath with Corbett and Workman impressive and the latter saw a shot flash narrowly wide of a post.

Jane Wheeler was denied by an excellent save before Corbett finally pulled the plug on Bath's hopes after a superbly executed short corner routine that ended with the midfielder hitting the target with some style to seal an away success.

The match ball was sponsored by Davies, Murray-White Solicitors.
