Bretforton Ladies 4,
Dursley 0
A FRESH morning greeted the players of newly promoted Bretforton for the first fixture of the season.
Their opponents had accompanied them up into Severn Division One and they were just as eager to start the new campaign with a win.
The first few minutes were tense as Dursley pushed into the D from the whistle forcing goalkeeper Fiona Lovecy to make an early save.
However, it didn't take long for Bretforton to get into their stride and a short corner led to Shirley Aubrey opening the scoring with a powerful strike.
Bretforton continued to make the play, passing well with Aubrey and player of the match Bernie Amphlett playing key pivotal roles in the middle of the pitch.
They had several chances to further their lead before a goalmouth scramble and a fortunate deflection saw captain Sarah Bragg push the ball over the line to make it 2-0.
The second half saw more open play with Bretforton striving to make better use of the wings. Kim Barry was in good form on the right and combined well on several occasions with Ceri Barber.
The third goal came deep from the back with initial play from Barber and sweeper Fiona Jordan before good passing play up the pitch ended with Amphlett taking a pass and sweetly sweeping the ball into the goal.
The Gloucestershire side continued to pressure but they were well thwarted by Jordan and skilful play by Jude Edghill.
Emily Aston then managed to push up the pitch with a super run and combined with Bragg to deservedly score Bretfor-ton's final goal.
The match ball was sponsored by Hippopotamus.
The second string travels to Cheltenham Civil Service on Saturday.
