THERE will be chuckles and tunes in Worcester next month when award-winning comedian Mitch Benn pays a visit to the city.

Mitch crosses the boundaries between music gigs and comedy shows with performances which have seen him pick up a string of accolades.

In 1995 he was voted Best New Comic at the Glastonbury Festival and, eight years later, chose the legendary Somerset event to introduce the world to his new band, The Distractions , in which he was flanked by bandmates Kirsty Newton and Tash Baylis.

Now the trio will be taking to the stage at Worcester's Marr's Bar in Pierpoint Street at 8pm on Thursday, October 6, for what looks set to be an entertaining evening.

In the nine years since his Glastonbury debut, Mitch has risen through the stand-up ranks to become one of the UK's top comedy-song performers.

He has also had regular slots on the radio, becoming a regular on BBC Radio Four's Now Show as well as on BBC Radio Two programmes It's Been A Bad Week and Jammin'.

His first CD - The Unnecessary Mitch Benn - was a big hit with fans, while the follow-up, Radio Face, featured extended versions of songs made popular on radio.

His set is normally split between his own original comedy songs and send-ups of famous bands such as The Smiths, Oasis and The Beatles.
