A RARE opportunity to visit the battlefields where Worc-estershire soldiers fought with great valour is on offer to county people.
The War Research Society, a Birmingham-based organisation, will be travelling to the Belgian town of Ypres in November, also visiting the Somme region of northern France. Both these areas saw much bitter fighting during the First World War.
The trip will take in the village of Gheluvelt, where a gallant charge by Ist Bn The Worcestershire Regiment saved the British Army from what appeared to be almost certain defeat at the First Battle of Ypres on Saturday, October 31, 1914.
Relatives of the fallen will be given the chance of visiting graves, time and schedules permitting
The visit runs from Monday, November 7 to Friday, November 11, and will culminate with the Armistice Day service, a moving event held every year at the Menin Gate, Ypres.
