A MAN who lost his kneecap after catching MRSA nine times in Worcester hospitals has been invited to join the MRSA support group.
The Worcester News reported yesterday how Ken Sutton, of Teme Crescent in Droitwich, claimed he repeatedly contracted the superbug after an operation at Worcester Royal Infirmary to rebuild his leg following a motorbike accident. But after the surgery the 60-year-old's leg swelled to twice its size as MRSA took hold and he required a further eight operations - the last at Worcestershire Royal Hospital - and caught MRSA eight more times.
Now, Tony Fields - the chairman of the MRSA support group, who himself lost a hip after catching MRSA - has been in touch to ask Mr Sutton to join in his fight to rid the country's hospitals of infection.
"I will be meeting Tony on to find out more about the group," Mr Sutton said. "The more publicity, the better. People like me can't change what happened, but I want people in future to get a better care."
