TWO Alcester Grammar School pupils wowed the Germans when they took part in a Warwickshire Youth Orchestra concert.
Rebecca Eldridge and Andrew Hood were among the young county musicians who received a standing ovation at a summer concert given in Germany as part of the Mosel Festival.
The finale - Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 by Edward Elgar was encored three times.
The special Last Night of the Proms concert was given at the Kurfurstlichen Palais in Trier to an audience of more than 300 people.
The local newspaper, the Trierischer Volksfreund, described the orchestra as having "astonishing security in both technical and musical respects".
Andrew, 14, who started playing the violin when he was six, said: "It was great, they kept wanting more and more.
"I have been in the orchestra for about two years now and thoroughly enjoy it."
Rebecca, who plays the bassoon, comes from a musical family.
Her mother is a woodwind tutor for the orchestra and her father is a conductor.
She said: "I love playing music. I chose the flute first but changed to playing the bassoon because it did not seem to be a very popular instrument."
The 16-year-old has even more strings to her bow as she sings and loves drama.
Entry to the orchestra is by audition and new players are always welcome. Details are available on www.musicforlife.net/groups/wyo.asp or from the CMS office on 01926 412803.
