HEADLESS Cross lost 2-0 to undefeated West Brom, a side that had scored 20 goals in their opening three matches.
Cross conceded a goal in the fifth minute but some excellent defending from Paula Palfreyman, Sharon Porter, Becky Ankcorn, Lisa Paronuzzi and Paula McDowell kept their opponents at bay for the remainder of the half.
The second half saw more pressure from a frustrated West Brom, but Cross continued their solid defensive performance.
Star player Laura Randall pulled off some crucial saves before West Brom added a second.
Cross host Kidderminster on Sunday (ko 2pm) hoping to avenge a defeat earlier in the season.
n Studley made the hastily arranged trip to newly-promoted Birmingham Diamonds full of expectations having won their last two league games.
But, with a number of players missing, Studley slumped to a 3-1 defeat.
The home side opened the scoring early on and Studley were unlucky not to level before the break.
The visitors started the second half in determined fashion and, with only 10 minutes gone, Sarah Edney latched onto a loose ball and drove a ferocious shot past the keeper.
But two goals in the final stages denied Studley a share of the spoils.
Studley are on the road again this week with a trip to Ross Town.
