REDDITCH Music Society's first concert in its 44th season takes place on Saturday at the Ecumenical Centre in Evesham Walk with exceptional pianist Iain Farrington performing his recital A Light of Night.
Organ Scholar at both St George's Chapel Windsor, where he played for many royal occasions, and St John's College Cambridge, Iain went on to gain the Royal Academy of Music's highest award before embarking on a career as organist and pianist all over the world.
He has broadcast regularly on BBC Radio 3 and has several recordings to his name as well as being a prolific arranger and composer.
He will be performing his own arrangement of Elgar's 3rd Symphony at the composer's birthplace next year. His recital will be very different to the norm.
Society secretary Anne Davis explains: "The main work will be Gershwin's orginal version of Rhapsody in Blue, well known works by Elgar, Grainger, Kreisler and Walton, plus Dave Brubeck and Art Tatum.
"However, the programme also features some of Iain's arrangements such as Strawberry Fields Forever and Money, Money, Money."
She added: "It should be a super evening. This is going to be a make or break season for us and we really need more people to come and hear world class musicians in their home town."
Tickets for the concert, which begins at 7.30pm, are £7.50 each (£6.50 concessions) with accompanied school age children admitted free, available on the door or in advance from 546056.
Programmes with details of the season's concerts are available from the Information Centre, library or by calling the same number.
