THE Artrix kicks off its bid to become the main place to come for comedy in Worcestershire on October 7 when one of Britain's most enduring stand-ups performs.

Comedy circuit stalwart Jeremy Hardy will be performing his topical brand of biting political satire and observational humor at the arts centre, on School Drive.

His appearance at the Artrix heralds a tide of comedy talent who are set to have the aisles roaring with laughter at the Artrix over the next few months.

Up and coming comedy star Chris Addison brings his Atomicity tour to the centre on October 15, while American satirist Rich Hall will tickle the ribs on November 28.

Artrix director Andy Woods said: "With the high quality line-up of comedians we have coming here the Atrix could be the comedy centre of North Worcestershire.

"Before if you wanted to go and see top comedians you had to go to Birmingham, which isn't always easy.

"But there will be a host of well known comedy stars performing at the centre from now on."

Hardy is one of the longest running of the crop of 'alternative' comedians who burst onto the scene in the 1980s, winning the 1988 Perrier award.

Hardy has appeared on a string of sucessful programs, including Grumpy Old Men, but is mainly famous for his performances on radio shows I'm Sorry, I Haven't a Clue, Just a Minute and Jeremy Hardy Speaks to the Nation.

He is also not afraid to touch on sensitive issues and analysed the conflict in the Middle East in the documentary Jeremy Hardy vs the Isreali Army. In the film Hardy learnt about non-violent protest and confronted a tank.

Tickets for the show, which start at 8pm, costs £12 and £10. To book phone the Artrix box-office on 01527 577330.
